Microsoft Teams

We have listened to all of the feedback that our stakeholders have given over the course of the last few weeks and we have been completing significant background development work during this time.

As part of this process, the Governing Body has authorised a significant upgrade to our network servers that will future proof the school's network facilities for many years to come. This upgrade will take place on site within the next few weeks.

We have also looked at potential digital learning platforms for the school and have decided to pilot the use of Microsoft Teams with our Y10 and Y12 learners after the half term break.

MS Teams enables:

  • Teachers to set work remotely using cloud technology. There is no need to link to the school network remotely. This instant access can be gained through any internet enabled device from any location. The cloud technology is available 24-7.
  • Students to access work set by their teacher, complete work using the full suite of MS Office programmes using a range of devises and submit work to their teachers remotely.
  • Teachers and students to be able to interact and communicate in a secure environment using a range of different methods including formal assignment feedback channels, lesson "chat" facilities, recorded messages and live video feeds.
  • As MS Teams is designed to be a secure digital classroom hub, it features many ways to support classroom management and online safeguarding. Our IT support team have the facility to monitor all aspects of the platform to keep our young people safe.
  • As a communication platform, MS Teams is a great opportunity for students to build and practice digital citizenship alongside their academic learning.
  • The opportunity for students to meet digitally with their peers and teachers to support pastoral care and wellbeing.

The initial pilot with Y10 and Y12 students starting 01/06/2020

A range of Y10 and Y12 teachers will be starting to use MS Teams to set work and interact with students after the half term break for a 2 week period. At this time, it is anticipated that the pilot will then extend to all Y10 and Y12 teachers, with all work being set via the MS Teams platform.
